A unique and beautiful home is created in a number of ways. I personally love a house that tells a story. I don’t just want an interior to have beautiful colors and textures, great lighting, and comfortable upholstery; I also want a house to tell me something about who lives there. Maybe it’s a gallery wall full of black and white family photos, or a collection of pottery from places all over the world. I know in my own house, pictures, books, and antiques tell a bit of my story. I also love to pair updated accessories and fabrics with antiques and sentimental objects.
Below are a few ways to personalize and elevate your space at the same time.
1) When displaying your family photos on a wall or in a bookcase, use similar frames or group black and white photos together and color photos together. Updated frames can transform a photo collection. If you have framed art that looks out of date, choose a new frame with clean lines and add a new mat.
2) If you have a collection of items that mean something to you, group them together tastefully to create the most impact. If you spread out the items in various rooms in your house, you’re diluting the impact of the collection.
3) Stay true to what you love and minimize what you spend on trend purchases. Staying true to the colors and patterns you love helps keep your home unique to you, and keeps you from spending money on items you won’t love over time.
Most anything that matters to you can personalize the feel of your home. The key is displaying these items in a new way so that feels fresh and new to you!
