One of the easiest ways to update your home is with new lighting. While I’m not a proponent of spending a whole design budget on trendy items, I do believe lighting is a great way to “nod” to a trend, creating unexpected impact.
Ways to transform your lighting can include purchasing new overhead lights or chandeliers, updating all your lampshades, and selecting light bulbs that have cohesive color and brightness throughout your home.
Brass and gold have been on trend for several years. If you’re wanting to incorporate this look in your home, think about purchasing a brass chandelier, pendant, or flush mount. If you have your grandmother’s dining table, pair it with an updated brass chandelier. Ceiling fans in bedrooms are great, but replacing a ceiling fan with an updated light fixture in a den or kitchen is transformational. Don’t be afraid to choose something a bit oversized for extra impact.
Lamp shades are a huge way you can update your lighting. Many times a client feels strongly about hanging on to a lamp that has sentimental value. Changing out the shade from a bell-shaped shade to a drum or tapered shade can give a lamp a whole new and current look.
Ambiance in your home cannot be achieved with 1000 watt bulbs. With all the confusing bulb choices out there today, you will want to make sure that the color tone of your lighting is the same throughout your house. Choose soft white light instead of blue light, and consider having dimmers installed on your canned lights and chandeliers.
A lighting “lift” is a great way to make your home feel fresh and on trend!
